Join, Marie Kakela of Nana's Featherweights to learn how to maintain you precious featherweight sewing machine. With a little love and tender care, your machine will sewing be for years to come. Take the time to learn about your machine and how to properly care for it. In class, you'll take the machine apart and learn when, where, and how to oil and grease your machine to keep it in tip top running order. Once it's all put back together, you'll test it out while completing a small sewing project.
Class includes oil, grease, and a brush for cleaning. Fabric for the small project will also be provided, but you should bring a neutral thread.
As a young person, Marie's first memory of sewing was around the age of 6. She became an active member of the local 4-H club. Thanks to their inspiration, her first successful sewing project happened when she was around 11 when she cross stitched blocks for a quilt when a younger cousin was born. As a hobby, quilting has become Marie's favorite because it involves "structure, rules and order". What was a slight interest in featherweights, prompted her to make her first purchase of her very own in 2020. Soon after the purchase, she quickly realized this was a new passion. This gave her an outlet for solving a mystery, where she practices troubleshooting and problem solving to make the beautiful antique machines "sing" and sew again.
