Advanced Beginner Quilting: Half Square Triangles

Have you completed beginning quilting and your wondering what’s next? Our new Advanced Beginner Quilting classes are the perfect next step. Each class series will focus on a different common quilt block that you’ll see over and over again in quilts. 

In this advanced beginner class, we'll be focusing on the Half Square Triangle. It can be difficult to sew so the diagonal exactly bisects the square. We have some great tips to help you easily and accurately sew this block. Just like Beginning Quilting, the goal is for you to finish the tote at the end of the three sessions, so there will be homework each session.

Class 1: You’ve already learned to cut your fabric during Beginning Quilting, so we’ll have you do that ahead of time and we can get right to the sewing. During the first class, you’ll learn to sew half square triangles two at a time. To make a lot of half square triangles in record time, you'll also learn to sew the blocks eight at a time. Lastly you'll learn to use the Bloc_Loc ruler to perfectly trim down each half square triangle.

Class 2: You've got a week off between sessions to stitch the front of the tote together. We'll add side panels to your bag and talk about quilting options for your bag front, back, and handle. This a great project to try out some fun variegated thread.

Class 3: For the final class, you'll assemble your tote bag learning to create a slip pocket, box your corners, and complete assembly.
